CRYPT CITY (Cave Evil & Warcults expansion) NOW PRINTING

Posted by Emperors of Eternal Evil on

We have started printing CRYPT CITY!

This is going to be the real Corroded Corridor #1. I think we've said other things are Corroded Corridor #1, and in a way WARCULTS is the the first Corroded Corridor. But this is Issue #1 of the game-zine "Corroded Corridor", which essentially stands for - maps and variants of Cave Evil, Warcults and any base game related to it.

When we finished Cave Evil in late 2011 we immediately got together in that winter at a cabin in Colorado and began to play these gigantic Cave Evil games that would never end. We saw this huge game in mind that could be played perpetually. This gameplay, at first, was like jumping into an ocean and trying to learn to swim. We would make up rules as we went along to connect the Cave Evil Necromancers with all the other characters we were meeting.

After many of these really gigantic sessions, we started to settle on single maps and the array of items needed to play a single map. We made a ton of these maps and many different kinds of variants. Some maps we played over and over but never released them.

We knew eventually we had to write these rules down, so we made WARCULTS in order to do that. Making Warcults and imagining that overall ruleset was a designing equivalent to climbing Mt. Everest for me. It was all encompassing in my life for a few years and was tricky to fully realize, but I feel we really did it.

In retrospect, if we understood business, we probably should have made regular expansions, but we felt we really needed to get an idea of the totality of our mechanics in order to make consistent perpetual gameplay. Warcults' 100 page rule book probably freaked people out, but it was good for us to write that all down so we could make games that always connect.

CRYPT CITY was the very first map that Mat Brinkman jotted down after our large scale gaming sessions. I remember him showing me the maze of the map and all the various details of it and I just fell in love. He had discs flying through mazes, Commanders marching with armies, Sarcophaguses to raid and much more. It is appropriate that we begin with Crypt City as it was our beginning. It is finally here. And so many more maps to do!

Pre-order this if it is curious to you. It if for any Cave Evil or Warcults player.

Here's a pic of that first Crypt City map, and yes there is a second map that went to this, but we think starting on the maze side is the wiser way to go.

  • Looks sick! FWIW, I’m quite fond of the Warcults rulebook. Pee-ordered and stoked!
