Charley Pride possesses one of the quintessential Country Music voices and remains loved and respected around the world as Country Music's first African-American superstar. Released in December 1967, The Country Way, and its subsequent follow-up, Make Mine Country, are considered by many to be two of Charley's finest albums. Released in April 1968 just as The Country Way shot to the top of the Country album charts Make Mine Country also chalked up Top-10 Country album sales success despite the absence of a hit single in its repertoire. Reissued for the first time ever on CD in this single disc collection, these two LPs are outstanding examples of 1960s era Country Music and feature Charley's early Top-5 Country hits "Does My Ring Hurt Your Finger" and "The Day The World Stood Still" as well as his hard-to-find original studio version of "Crystal Chandeliers." Also featured are Charley's renditions of many chart-topping hits by other Country artists, including "Act Naturally" (Buck Owens), "Life Turned Her That Way" (Mel Tillis), "I Threw Away The Rose" (Merle Haggard), "Wings Of A Dove" (Ferlin Husky), "Before The Next Teardrop Falls" (Freddy Fender), "Above And Beyond (The Call Of Love)" (Buck Owens) and "A Girl I Used To Know" (George Jones).
The vast majority of these recordings have never been released on CD. All 24 tracks have been lovingly remastered (in 24 bit / 96 kHz resolution) from original analog source tapes. Included along with the music are historical notes, detailed recording session credits and the liner notes and images that adorned the original LP releases. This release will be supported by ongoing social media and online promotional campaigns targeted at Classic Country fans as well as promotions at Classic Country radio outlets. Pride will also be featuring tracks from these albums at his upcoming tour dates.
