Suffer a blackened birth into a desolate land of surreal horror. A world wounded by psychic warfare, mind-controlled cities, interdimensional labyrinths, and wasteland tribes. You are the alien here; the last survivor of your species. Your existence must be earned.
Xas Irkalla is a hardcore survival-horror roleplaying game, written and illustrated by James Vail, set in a world inspired by Cormac McCarthy's The Road, chaos-gnostic satanic black metal, and ancient Mesopotamia.
When the story begins, the characters wake up naked in a dark maze of intersecting dimensions, spawned by the nightmares of dead psychics. After emerging from ground zero, they must face the ash-laden wastelands as scavengers clad in rags and bones. Eventually, they may become rulers over small settlements, gladiators in one of the slave cities, or explorers that unlock the mysteries of psychic powers.
This game uses the Strain system, a ruleset designed to challenge the players in all aspects. Even with strategic play, only powerful characters and cautious players will survive. Either you play intelligently, or the game will destroy you.
All rules necessary to play are included. However, you will need 10-sided dice (ideally 3 per player), pencils, and character sheets. Ideal for 3 to 4 players with another to act as Game Master.
"Xas Irkallla is the RPG equivalent of the terrifying esoteric oddity of a Deathspell Omega album colliding with the blackened violence of any given USBM band. Its dark and grim and mind bending and unpleasant, like being trapped in a Gustave Doré painting." - Ty Arthur (https://tyarthur.wordpress. com/2018/05/08/xas-irkalla- black-metal-insanity-in-rpg- form/)
"Xas Irkalla is way, way more brutal than any D&D campaign I’ve ever heard of. Hell, it’s more brutal than Oderus Urungus’ Towers Two adventure." - Jeff Treppel, Metalsucks (http://www.metalsucks.net/ 2017/08/23/xas-irkalla-a- brutal-new-game-worthy-of- metal/)
